About Julie Balogh
Julie Balogh Brand born 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio has been living and working
as a studio ceramic artist since 1994 in Cuba, Missouri. She received
her BA of Arts and Sciences with a major in Art Therapy from Capital University
in Columbus, Ohio in 1989. Julie is largely self taught but has studied
through workshops with internationally known ceramic artists she admires
such as Ron Myers, Michael Corney, George Bowes, Woody Hughes, Neil Tetkowski
and Sergei Isupov.
Julie’s father is a Hungarian immigrant and the Hungarian culture was
a part of her growing up in Cleveland. The brightly colored Hungarian
pottery and embroidery she viewed in her many travels to Hungary and throughout
her house as a child evidently had an impact upon her intense use of color
in her ceramic work today.
Julie moved from New York city to Cuba, Missouri about thirteen years
ago to set up a ceramic studio and pursue a career as a potter. Over these
years her work has been transformed by her natural surroundings and is
evident in it’s organic composition. Each ceramic piece is approached
exclusively as a new canvas through form, color and imagery.
